Library Technical Services Assistants assist with the collegewide acquisition, receipt, bibliographic control, registration of online access, and delivery of materials to facilitate use of and access to, the library’s tangible and electronic collections as well as management of library web-based information regarding library services and resources in content management systems. Incumbents create and maintain bibliographic holdings, financial (purchase orders, invoices, monitoring fund balances), technical, and online configuration data in the library’s library management system (LMS), book and media vendors’ online ordering systems, electronic resource vendor platforms, and related knowledgebases. Incumbents also maintain information in web-based content management systems to facilitate access for students and faculty.
Work schedules are typically Monday through Friday 8:30AM to 5:00PM.
Education and Training:
AA or AS degree in accounting, business, computer science, or related field.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of library services, preferably in an academic environment, that provides an understanding of the field. Knowledge of library management systems (LMS), knowledgebases, and discovery services. Knowledge of OCLC Connexion. Knowledge of MARC standards. Knowledge of web-based content management systems in library environments. Familiarity with RDA, Library of Congress Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings.
Experience:
Two years of experience, working in a library, preferably in an education environment, that provides an understanding of the field. The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
